People who learn to play an instrument can help strengthen their auditory skills, communications skills, studying skills and many other important skills that can help in day to day life. This is especially seen with people who start playing music at an early age.

Professor Nina Kraus, director of the Auditory Neuroscience Laboratory at Northwestern University says:

“To learn to read, you need to have good working memory, the ability to disambiguate speech sounds, make sound-to-meaning connections, each one of these things really seems to be strengthened with active engagement in playing a musical instrument.”
